INTRODUCTION

Recognizing the critical importance of ethical considerations, Rahimi’s Lab conducts extensive research on the ethical implications of AI in healthcare. This includes examining issues such as patient data privacy, algorithmic transparency, and fairness in AI-driven health applications.

The lab is committed to ensuring that its AI solutions adhere to the highest standards of ethical responsibility, aiming to build trust in AI technologies among patients and healthcare providers. Their work in this area helps shape guidelines and best practices for implementing AI in healthcare responsibly, addressing challenges such as bias, accountability, and consent.

Moreover, As AI becomes a core part of healthcare, applying Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion or EDI is necessary for creating a system that respects all backgrounds and meets varied needs throughout its lifecycle. Equity ensures each person receives enough resources, diversity promotes wide representation, and inclusion ensures all voices, especially those from marginalized communities, are heard.

Despite the clear need for integrating EDI, no current guidelines or frameworks support this integration into the AI lifecycle. To make machine learning algorithms more reliable, secure, and equitable, our lab investigates the technology’s drawbacks while looking for solutions.

DR. Samira Rahimi:

“We ensure that AI models are transparent and equitable to diverse populations such as marginalized communities. We also work on policy recommendations and frameworks, like EDAI framework, to promote responsible AI use in healthcare”.
